Samantha Holden

North Node Coordinator (Highland & Western Isles)

Samantha Holden has been working in research for over 15 years following completion of an honours degree in Biochemistry at the University of Edinburgh. On graduation she moved to Australia where she spent four years in Melbourne, working for the Jean Hailes Foundation (NHMRC Centre for Clinical Excellence 2003-2007), managing clinical trials as a research co-ordinator on studies in the area of Women’s Health. On returning to Scotland she was employed by NHS Highland and the Scottish Cancer Research Network to help set up the NHS Highland Cancer Trials Service, and, since 2009, she has been with the NHS Highland Research Development and Innovation Department as well as being North-node research co-ordinator for the network. During this time she has worked to enable practices across what is a large and mainly rural geographical area to participate in research. Samantha has an interest in equality of access to health services for remote regions and she has recently established a remote access service to enable more rural practices to take part in studies.
