Glasgow conference envisions ‘Better Care, Brighter Futures’ through research and innovation

A pioneering research and innovation conference is aiming to ‘turn evidence into everyday impact’ this June, with registration now open and abstract submissions being invited

Set to take place on Wednesday 3 June at the Teaching and Learning Centre, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), the ‘Glasgow R&I Conference: Better Care, Brighter Futures’ will bring together healthcare professionals, researchers, and innovators to explore what’s next for the region.

Organised by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and the University of Glasgow, the event programme features “senior leadership perspectives, plenary sessions on strategy, innovation and data‑enabled research, and real‑world examples of cutting‑edge research and innovation projects”.

Through engaging plenary and parallel sessions, this “dynamic one‑day celebration” will highlight the impact of leading research and innovation taking place across the region, while showcasing collaborative solutions which are shaping the future of health and care.

Keynote speakers include Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak, Regius Professor of Medicine at the University of Glasgow and Scotland’s Chief Scientist for Health, and Dr Scott Davidson, Medical Director of Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

They will present on the subject of ‘Shaping the Future: Vision, Strategy and Clinical Research’.

Delegates will have opportunities to:

  • Engage with experts and be inspired by leading voices in health research and innovation
  • Take part in a choice of clinical speciality themed parallel sessions
  • View insightful ePosters and hear real-world case studies from across NHSGGC
  • Network with researchers, clinicians, and innovators over refreshments and lunch

The day concludes with a plenary entitled ‘The Future of Research: Opportunity, Impact and Involvement’ focused on collaboration, impact for patients, and opportunities to get involved, followed by poster prizes celebrating research excellence.

Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak said: “I am looking forward to being part of what will be a highly progressive-minded conference.

“The event will serve to evidence positive impact in the here and now while anticipating improved patient outcomes based on exciting aspirations for the future.

“There is much to celebrate in research and innovation activity happening across the Glasgow region — in many ways a reflection of our ambitious “once for Scotland” philosophy — and this event will encapsulate the collective drive to achieve more.

“The aim will be to turn discussion into action, and the more wide-ranging we can make the discussion, the more we can all learn, take away, and act upon.”

Submissions for ePoster and oral presentations are also now welcome. Abstract themes are:

  • Clinical & Translational Impact
  • Digital Health, Data & AI
  • Research Delivery

Submissions are invited through an online portal where further guidance is offered. The closing date is Thursday 14 May.
